No, this Belted Kingfisher wasn't ice fishing.  The Boise River was free of ice.  It was just a cold snowy place to be.

Capturing this image of a Hairy Woodpecker was a "being in the right place at the right time" thing.  Especially, catching the flying wood chips at it was creating this nesting cavity.

Great Blue Herons can stand incredibly still for long periods of time.  This was required for a slow shutter speed due to the low light situation.  The result was the birds still pose surrounded by the blurred whitewater.
